The web Directory of Information Materials for People Affected by Cancer is regularly updated and currently has details of 1500 booklets, leaflets, books and audiovisual materials for people affected by cancer. Most have been published in the last five years, but we have included some older ones that are still useful. Print copies of the 12th edition of the directory (November 2011) are available free from Macmillan Cancer Support on 0808 808 00 00 (you can see some sample pages here [PDF, 582 kb]). Alternatively, you can order a copy on be.macmillan, where you can also download a PDF of updates to the print edition.
We use the Flesch readability score to test booklets and leaflets and the DISCERN quality tool to assess those that discuss treatment options. People affected by cancer review the books and DVDs and the Book and DVD reviews listing has details of these, together with links to the reviews. You can also search for books by title or cancer type below. We also produce a list of suggested core books for public libraries and you can download a copy here.
Search for a publication
Enter a keyword or phrase, and an optional cancer type from the drop-down menu. Alternatively, you can browse specific cancers in the list below. You can then restrict the results by using the filters on the left-hand side of the screen.
Click on the title of the resource for more information, including a description, the publisher's contact details, and a link to the PDF where available.
If you are looking for translated materials you can search for these by typing the language (e.g. Bengali, Polish) into the search box, or you can download the Guide to BME cancer resources (May 2013).
